It was an awesome game for it's time, but like others said nowadays it's quite dated. One thing that irks me though.is when I see AO on a list of 'free mmorpgs' with a description such as 'now completely free!' Ao is not completely free.you can play the bare vanilla AO only. The 4 x-pacs out are 75% of the game imo and you have to pay-to-play for them.If you like a really in-depth character creation, ability to literally make your character whatever you want ( Granted some play styles with a certain prof won't do well) then try it. AO was my first and only online love. I could play it for a long time. Wow is really good, but I can play a month, then stop for 3, then play again. AO has some really deep game mechanics when it comes to character building and tweaking.
There are a loooooooot of skills, and nearly all can find a useful application. The nice thing are the implants, wich are a way to buff you permanently. It became a real sport to make PVP with a lvl 30 character using level 100+ stuff, haha! On the other hand, the grinding and missions are way too repetitive. So, old, but was good some time ago ^^.
